One of the biggest concerns that people face when hosting a private party is making sure their guests will have fun. And at most parties, the amount of fun your guests have hinges on the music you play. If you’ve read our blogs before, you already know the reasons to have live music at your private party, but when it comes to knowing what songs to play to keep the mood going, you may feel a little lost.
So we’ve put together a list of songs that are sure to rock any private party. Which ones would you play?
James Brown may have felt good when he sang this timeless hit, but your party guests will feel even better when they hear that opening wail. This high-energy number is a great way to kick off your shindig and get people into the party mood.
This is another song with opening notes that get people fired up. It’s also a great song to get your party guests to venture out onto the dance floor if they’re feeling a little shy, because they only have to hear the lyrics of the chorus to know it’s OK to bust out their best dance moves.
This feel-good number keeps the momentum going during your event with its bumping beat and hopeful lyrics. This song works at any party because it’s got just enough of a hip-hop sound to suit the younger crowd, but not so much that the older folks lose interest.
If you want to get everybody movin’, everybody groovin’, baby, you’ve got to include Love Shack on the setlist at your private party. Be prepared to see some awesome moves from your guests as they sing along to this karaoke classic.
Country music doesn’t work at every party, but this song is a guaranteed hit. It’s got a poppy lilt to it that sticks in your head and gets even the non-country lovers to sing along with its soulful chorus.
This song is a little more subdued than some of the other songs on this list, giving your guests a chance to catch their breath if they need to. But the latin sound still keeps things fun so that you don’t lose the party mood. This is a song that your parents can slow dance to while the teenagers show off their cha-cha.
What’s cooler than being cool? Playing this song at your private party, that’s what. If the crowd lost too much energy with Michael Bublé, pick things back up with this bouncing, funky hip-hop number. Its irreverent (but clean) lyrics are sure to get your guest back out on the dance floor shaking it like a polaroid picture.
“Dynamite” is truly a wholesome hip-hop songs, which means it’s perfect for a family event — its exultant lyrics are just fine for your 5-year-old daughter or your 80-year-old grandmother.
We do have to censor the lyrics a bit on this song, but we still have to include it on this list because it’s the perfect blend of punk, reggae, and rock. The easy, swinging beat will appeal your middle-aged guests, especially the 80s babies in the crowd. It’s also another good song to give people a breather or to start winding down the night.
We love ending the night with this song for a few different reasons. Everybody has memories associated with this song, which gives it a sweet, nostalgic feel. Those emotions, coupled with its slightly longer run time, give people a chance to really savor the fun time they’ve had at your party. And its lyrics are pretty universally known, which means everyone sings along.
